Standard Fantasy football leagues prioritize touchdowns and yards, but PPR Fantasy football leagues reward players for every catch. This should alter your 2024 Fantasy football strategy if you are in this type of league, as wide receivers and pass-catching running backs hold immense value. Jaguars tight end Evan Engram was a PPR standout last year, finishing as the TE2 with 12.5 Fantasy points per game. He only scored four times, but that did not keep him from being one of the Fantasy football sleepers in PPR formats.
Engram will be competing with wide receivers Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr. for targets from quarterback Trevor Lawrence. It is important to predict how their target share will unfold, as that will determine the correct ADP for all those players. Top 2024 Fantasy football deep sleepers and breakouts
One of the 2024 Fantasy football breakouts Gibbs is predicting: Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey. Los Angeles used its early second-round pick on McConkey, who had 119 receptions across three collegiate seasons at Georgia. He was an efficient and reliable target though, which is exactly the type of player Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert wants to target.
McConkey has all the tools to make an immediate impact as a rookie, especially since he is only competing with Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnston atop the depth chart. Herbert has spoken glowingly of McConkey this fall, telling reporters that “it’s like he’s been a four- or five-year vet.” That is good news for McConkey’s Fantasy outlook, and Gibbs is happy to take a chance on the rookie as a Fantasy breakout.
Another 2024 Fantasy football deep sleeper Gibbs has identified in his 2024 Top 150 PPR rankings: Titans running back Tyjae Spears. A third-round pick out of Tulane, Spears backed up Derrick Henry last season and produced 838 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season. Henry is gone now but there will still be competition for carries after the Titans signed former Cowboys running back Tony Pollard.
Spears was targeted 70 times and caught 52 passes for 385 yards and a touchdown last season, so even if Pollard dominates the early-down work like Henry did there should be a role for Spears as a receiving back. However, with Pollard underwhelming as the top option in Dallas, there’s potential for Spears to earn the top spot throughout the course of the season and Gibbs thinks that upside is alluring.
