All sizes and lots purchased in 2023 or 2024 may have been contaminated with a bacterium called P. Gergoviae.

Amika has issued a voluntary recall of its Mirrorball High Shine + Protect Antioxidant Shampoo.

This was issued after recent feedback of a change in odor and rare cases of temporary irritation. Various production batches at Amika’s third-party manufacturing site do not meet our stringent quality standards due to the presence or potential presence of a bacterium called P. Gergoviae.

Amika’s website stated that the recall only impacts all sizes, and all lots purchased in 2023 or 2034 of the Mirrorball Shampoo, not the conditioner.

The website said,

“After consultation with an independent toxicology group, we are confident the use of this product does not pose a serious health or safety risk to healthy people.”

Amika tells customers to stop using the product immediately, even if it does not appear to have a change in odor or quality issue.
