Amazon Orders Employees Back To The Office Five Days A Week

E-commerce giant Amazon (AMZN) has ordered its corporate employees back to the office five days a week.

Amazon chief executive officer (CEO) Andy Jassy wrote in a memo to staff that, moving forward, all staff will be expected at the office on a full-time basis, ending the company’s hybrid work-from-home policy that had been in place since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020.

Most recently, Amazon had required corporate workers to be in the office three days a week. The company is giving employees until Jan. 2, 2025 to adhere to the new policy.

In a memo to all staff, Jassy wrote: “Before the pandemic, it was not a given that folks could work remotely two days a week, and that will also be true moving forward.”

Jassy also warned employees that there could be staff layoffs in the coming months as Amazon moves to simplify its corporate structure and “flatten the organization.”

The Amazon CEO added that the company is making these changes to strengthen its corporate culture and ensure that it remains competitive.

Amazon’s stock has risen 23% this year and currently trades at $184.89 U.S. per share.
