Apple’s next major iPhone upgrade will include a new model called the iPhone 17 Air, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
This seems like an obvious way to expand the lineup, given Apple’s success with the Air moniker for thinner MacBooks and iPads (I’m currently typing these words on my MacBook Air), and could be more appealing than the iPhone Plus or mini.
Gurman writes that the iPhone 17 Air would include Apple’s first in-house modem, which will reportedly debut in the new iPhone SE in the spring. The phone is also supposed to be Apple’s thinnest smartphone yet — two millimeters thinner than the current iPhones. So it would represent a step toward the foldable iPhone and iPad that the company is reportedly developing for 2026 or later.
Gurman also runs down other Apple products he expects to launch in 2025, including a smart home hub. Not on the list: A new version of the company’s mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro.
