âDudes rock,â one of my colleagues remarked upon seeing both posts. âThat really is so Boy of them,â another chimed in. But frankly? I get it. Chalamet, despite recent relationship-based challenges to the contrary, is an established and dedicated Knicks fan, going as far as to travel to Detroit with Ben Stiller for Game 3 of New Yorkâs first-round matchup with the Pistons. Bieber is the preeminent celebrity Leafs fan, often palling around with Toronto captain Auston Matthews and once literally pausing in the middle of filming a GQ video to catch a few precious moments of a random regular season game. Of course these guys skipped the Met Gala to stay home and watch sports!
For all the anxiety and panic the Met red carpet often instills in its celebrity attendees, that pales in comparison to the abject horror of your team being in a critical postseason game and not being able to follow along. (I should know: as GQâs resident Leafs obsessive, I was stuck frantically refreshing the box score last night while also desperately racing to push out our Met coverage. Justin, letâs link for Game 2.)
Thankfully for both Chalamet and Bieber, the games played out almost as similarly as their IG posts. The Leafs overcame losing their starting goalie midgame and a late push by the Panthers to seal a 5-4 victory, while the Knicks rallied from 20 points down to eke out a 108-105 W in overtime. They were the kind of games, frankly, that any fan in their right mind would feel foolish to have missedâno matter what else might be happening that evening.
