Much has been said about the comparison between the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Mahindra Thar, especially concerning their sizes and their abilities to conquer off-road terrains. Numerous individuals have tested both SUVs in various scenarios. In some cases, the Thar emerged as the victor, while in others, the Jimny triumphed impressively. Here is one such instance in which the Jimny and the Thar were put to the test in muddy puddles, with the Jimny emerging as the clear winner, while the Thar encountered a severe mishap.
In a YouTube video uploaded by BRH Expeditions, a white Maruti Suzuki Jimny and a black Mahindra Thar were driven into muddy puddles filled with slush. The video reveals that the muddy puddles had significantly high water levels, and the drivers of both SUVs ventured into the patch. While it was indeed a risky move to begin with, the individuals behind the steering wheels of both SUVs proceeded without any hesitation.
The video continues with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny successfully traversing a muddy puddle with five people on board. Maruti Suzuki categorizes the Jimny as a four-seater, with the rear seats capable of accommodating two full-sized adults. Despite this, five people occupied the Jimny, and its driver managed to navigate through the muddy puddle. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny boasts a water-wading capacity of 300mm, which appeared to be lower than the water level in the muddy puddle.
In the subsequent part of the same video, the Mahindra Thar is driven into an even deeper muddy puddle, which appeared to be larger and deeper than the one faced by the Jimny. Mahindra claims a water-wading capacity of 650mm, which appears to be lower than the slush level observed in the video. The video depicts how the Thar became stuck in the middle of the puddle, as water entered both the engine bay and the cabin of the SUV, ultimately leading to the engine seizing.
With the engine seized, the Thar was unable to move even an inch. The person driving the Jimny attempted to tow the Thar out of the puddle but was unsuccessful. In the end, a tractor had to be used to pull the Thar out of the puddle. After emerging from the puddle, a significant amount of muddy water is seen flowing out of the cabin as soon as its doors are opened.
The video illustrates the risks associated with driving a vehicle in a muddy puddle with high water levels. It emphasizes the importance of being aware of a vehicle’s water-wading capacity before venturing into such deep waters, as neglecting this aspect can be hazardous, even for a rugged SUV like the Mahindra Thar.
