Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe Stand Atop the Olympic Couples Fit Podium

There’s nothing like getting off a gigantic fit with your significant other—just ask Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe. The basketball and soccer greats, respectively, have long been one of the best-dressed couples in sports, their wardrobe pedigree managing to reach the high bar set by their athletic one. They share six Olympic gold medals between them (plus Megan’s bronze from 2021) and returned to the Games in Paris this year for the first time as retirees. Even with all the attention on the women of Team USA as they contend for gold, the legends have managed to turn eyes from the court and pitch back to them for brief moments thanks to some elite summertime ensembles.

Bird kept it simple with Nike short shorts in a bold teal checked print and classic white Nike Cortez kicks. Her biggest flex? Wearing a shirt from her own brand, TOGETHXR, which she co-founded with fellow Olympians Chloe Kim, Alex Morgan, and Simone Manuel. You’ve probably seen their ubiquitous “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports” shirt at any and every WNBA or NWSL game this year—Bird showed out in a special edition produced for the Paris games, rendering the phrase in French.

Rapinoe, long the slightly more out-there dresser of the two, stayed true to form at the Games, donning glimmering, baggy shorts from the cult Japanese label Needles and a drapey three-quarter-sleeve tee. She paired her simple black Nike Killshot 2s with less-simple green floral socks. Accessorizing is one of Rapinoe’s strong suits (well, that and putting the ball in the net from 40-plus yards out) and she drew this fit together perfectly with a pair of chunky pink-lensed shades and an elegant silk scarf. Even when dressing for the summer heat, a Parisian touch like that goes a long way in making an Olympics fit sing.

Rapinoe and Bird may have called time on their careers as Olympians, but their reign as the best-dressed spectators at the Summer Games has only begun. And it feels like a safe bet to put your money on the two icons defending that title for years to come.
