The Greatest Barbour Jacket of All Time Is 20% Off Today

If you tuned into the Cyber Week news yesterday, you might be aware that the only Barbour jacket that matters—that’s the Bedale, thank you very much—was temporarily on sale. “Was” is the operative word here, though; the 20% discount at Backcountry.com put the Bedale $80-ish off, a delightful Cyber Monday treat. Now it’s Tuesday, and the deal is kaput…right? Not exactly. For whatever reason, the Discount Deities have blessed you with another 24 hours to snag the jacket of your dreams, and this time, they seem to mean business.

Sure, you’ll still need an account at Backcountry to access the deal—the discount won’t even show up until it’s in your cart—but creating one takes approximately three seconds (literal, not metaphorical) and, again, the Bedale is the kind of jacket destined for heirloom status, which seems like good ROI, even in the context of my utter lack of practical investment expertise.

If this particular Barbour jacket doesn’t ring any bells, here’s the low-down. Barbour, which has specialized in outerwear since 1894, first started making the Bedale in 1980 as a lighter-weight, shorter-length layer primarily intended for horseback riding in inclement weather. Soon enough, though, the Bedale’s waxed cotton exterior, corduroy collar, zipper-front, and massive bellows pockets caught on with the city crowd, too, making it an immediate hit for the British heritage label.

Four decades later, the Bedale is as sharp, tough, and technically proficient as ever. Its fit is roomy enough to layer beneath without adding extra bulk; its construction is tough as nails; and its waxed cotton shell does an impossibly good job at keeping you dry, without using a single PFA. (Even the re-waxing process can be sort of meditative, if you learn how to do it properly.)

Look, I’ll be the first to admit that 20% off isn’t exactly a staggering discount, especially in the context of the typical Cyber Week shenanigans. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t even get out of bed—or deign to flex my blogging fingers—for a discount below, like, half off. These are not normal circumstances, though, friends. The frenzy surrounding this week is fleeting by nature; most of the deals I’ve spotted are here today, gone tomorrow (or, y’know, the day after that). So while the percentage you’re saving certainly could be higher, I’d be heartbroken if you woke up Wednesday morning woefully oblivious about yesterday’s opportunity—to cop a Bedale of your own for a little less scratch than usual.
